Nth Hour Privacy Policy

Effective September 27, 2026. Nth Hour is an independent iOS app made by Rushil. Questions: hello@nthhour.org.

The short version. Your food, water, weight, and coaching data live on your phone and in Apple Health. Nth Hour never sells data and never shows ads. Cloud AI coaching is off until you turn it on. While it is on, requests to the coach include the data listed under Cloud AI coaching below, including activity and sleep from Apple Health. They pass through our server, which keeps no copy of them. Location is optional: if you allow it, your coordinates stay on your phone and only your city is saved.

What Nth Hour stores, and where

Your logged food, water, weigh ins, pantry list, streak, and coach conversations are stored in a private database on your device. They are not stored on Nth Hour's server or in iCloud. While Cloud AI is on, coach requests carry the parts listed under Cloud AI coaching through our server to the AI provider. The server keeps no copy of them, and holds each coach reply for at most 10 minutes, as described under Your account. Deleting the app deletes this data.

Your profile is backed up to your account on our server: the answers you gave in onboarding and later to the coach (goal, height, weight, age, sex, the health flags you picked and whether tracking has felt stressful, how you eat, such as one meal a day or an eating window, the fasts you keep, including religious fasts and how you keep them, who cooks, diet, your carb setting (balanced, low carb or keto), allergies and food preferences, drinking habits if you are 21 or older, your grocery and eating out budget, whether you stretch every dollar, and whether you use SNAP or WIC, the foods you crave with your go to for each, when cravings hit and what sets them off, your training history, where you train and the equipment you have at home, session length, the set hours you typed for work, class or shifts, wake and sleep hours, how much you move on a normal day, injuries or health notes you chose to share, and your city if you shared it), your plan settings, the usual week your targets run on (an everyday life level worked out from your steps or your normal day answer, and a summary of the training recorded in the last 28 days), which of the coach's later questions you have already answered, and the short summary of what the coach has learned about you. Cholesterol and blood pressure numbers typed into the Heart panel are never part of this backup. This is what lets the same account come back with the same plan after you reinstall the app or change phones. It is stored against your account, used only to restore your profile, and deleted with your account.

Apple Health

With your permission, Nth Hour reads weight, steps, active energy, sleep, and workouts from Apple Health to set your daily targets, and writes what you log back to Apple Health: food (calories, protein, carbs, fat and sugar), alcoholic drinks as a count of drinks, water, weigh ins, and the workouts you log. Your targets are worked out on your phone: a base for your everyday life from your daily steps over the last 28 days (or, until about two weeks of steps are on your phone, from your answer to how much you move on a normal day), your usual training week from your workouts of the last 28 days, and a credit for today's workouts and extra steps. While Cloud AI is on, your weight, steps, active energy, sleep, and workouts from Apple Health are included in coach requests, as listed under Cloud AI coaching below, so the coach can fit its advice to your day. Those requests pass through our server without a copy being kept. Nth Hour uses Health data only to run the app's features. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with data brokers. You can change permissions anytime in the Health app under Sharing.

Location (optional)

Onboarding asks once whether Nth Hour may use your location while you are using the app. It never uses location in the background. If you allow it, the app finds your phone once, rounds the position to about a kilometer, and keeps that only on this phone, to work out your local dawn and sunset for fasting times. If you choose Not now or clear your city in My plan, that rounded position is deleted from the phone. To name your city, that rounded position is looked up with Apple's maps service. Only the city name is saved to your profile: it is backed up to your account, and while Cloud AI is on the coach receives it for local food ideas. Your coordinates are never sent to our server, never part of your account backup, and never sent to the coach. You can turn location off anytime in the Settings app.

Your account

You sign in with Apple, or with your email and a one time code. There are no passwords. Our server, which runs on Cloudflare, stores your email address, a display name if you gave one, an Apple account identifier if you used Sign in with Apple, and a hashed session token. Sign in codes are delivered by Resend, an email delivery service, which receives only your email address and the code. Apart from the profile backup described above, the server does not store your health or food data. While Cloud AI is on, coach requests with the data listed under Cloud AI coaching pass through it on their way to the AI provider. It keeps no copy of them, and holds each coach reply for at most 10 minutes so the app can pick it up again if your connection drops.

Cloud AI coaching (optional)

The coach, meal photo recognition, and receipt reading run on cloud AI from Anthropic (Claude). This is off until you turn it on in onboarding or in the You tab, and you can turn it off anytime. When it is on, requests to the coach can include:

Any cholesterol or blood pressure numbers you typed into the Heart panel are sent only with coach chat messages. They are stored only on your phone, never on our server or in the coach memory. The coach never receives your email address or other contact details, and nothing is sent while the switch is off. Anthropic processes these requests under its API terms and does not use API data to train its models. Requests travel encrypted through our Cloudflare server, which forwards them and keeps no copy of what you send. The server holds each coach reply for at most 10 minutes, so the app can pick it up again if your connection drops, and then deletes it. Apart from that it stores only a daily count of coach requests per account to prevent abuse.

Food databases

Food searches go through our Cloudflare server with your account token, so only signed in accounts can search. The server passes the search text on to the USDA FoodData Central database and keeps no copy of it. Barcode lookups go to Open Food Facts and contain the barcode only. Open Food Facts data is used under the Open Database License.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled on your device around the wake and sleep hours you set, how you eat, the fasts you keep, when cravings hit, and the set hours you typed for work, class or shifts. No notification data leaves your phone.

Analytics and advertising

Nth Hour has no third party analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no tracking.

Crash reports

If the app crashes or freezes, iOS gives Nth Hour a technical report the next time it opens (Apple's MetricKit). The app sends that report to our own server, tied to your account so it is deleted with it. A report contains the app version, your iPhone model and iOS version, and the code that was running when it failed. It never contains your food logs, weight, messages, photos, or Apple Health data. No third party crash service is involved. Apple's separate crash sharing with developers is controlled in your device's Privacy settings.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device. You can delete your account inside the app (You tab, Account, Delete account): it erases the account on our server immediately, revokes your Apple sign in token, and wipes the app's data on this phone. You can export everything this account keeps on your phone as a file (You tab, Export my data). Apple Health data written by Nth Hour can be removed in the Health app at any time.

Children

Nth Hour is for people 17 and older. Alcohol related features are shown only to users who are 21 or older. For a 17 year old the coach keeps its guidance conservative and recommends a parent, doctor, or dietitian for their nutrition plan.

Not medical advice

Nth Hour estimates and coaches. It does not diagnose, treat, or prescribe, and it is not a substitute for a clinician or registered dietitian. If you have a medical condition, take medication that affects appetite or metabolism, or are pregnant, discuss your plan with your care team.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date, and material changes will be noted inside the app.
